Proper turnout for the foxhunting horse is both traditional and serves as a compliment to the landowner-- who makes hunting possible for us all. The Masters of the Tennessee Valley Hunt have established the following policy in regard to proper turnout of the hunt horse:
Tack and Turnout
Horses should be shod or neatly trimmed, manes pulled, clean, fit and well fed. Clipping is optional. Braiding is required only on dates such as Opening Meet designated on the Fixture Card.
English tack is appropriate, although this requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Masters for certain guests riding in the Hilltopper field. Tack should be clean, well fitting, and in good repair. Colored browbands, nosebands, breastplates, boots and saddle pads are not appropriate. Rubber covered reins, saddle covers, seat savers, dropped nosebands, running and standing martingales, and protective boots are permitted.
